Project Brief :
Bihar has one of the lowest female literacy rates in India. Under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme, every states of India have taken various steps towards protecting the girls and enabling their education. IDF is implementing a project titled “Maitri Project” on girl’s education from Feb, 2023 supported by “Educate Girls” in 5 blocks of Vaishali District. The project aims at  identifyingthe key factors of girls dropping out and never went to the school followed by admitting them in schools.

Vaishali district falls in north part of Bihar, adjacent to Patna district having river Ganga in between.It is 10th largest district in the State by population. The literacy rate in the district is 75.41% (males) and 56.73% (females). While altogether 2,053 schools, both primary and secondary, exist in the district. The literacy among schedule castes is only 22.8% but in the Musahars, the most vulnerable even in SCs (Schedule Castes) community, it is only 6.88%. The literacy among EBCs (Extremely Backward Castes) is also poor and it is under 48.68% only.

Therefore IDF would focus more on such SCs, EBCs and minorities communities Girls with the Project aims to enrolling 4000 girls in the schools who are Out of School Girls (OOSG) through various mobilizing and awareness activities with different groups of the society such as; community meetings, door to door Survey and meetings with school management for admitting out of school girls admission in schools by field work force / project team and social leaders, Admission processes and field movement and effort for admitting out of school girls back in local schools by field staff and other social leaders, Girl Education Campaign of ‘Beti Padhao Beti Bacho’, Award and rewards to best performing schools, Girls and mothers.

The project also aims at the retention of all those admitted girls in their respective schools for continuation of their studies. Both The Educate Girls  and IDF  are committed to this objective and would be making endeavors  till the project period from February 2023 to September 2024.
