Project Brief :
IDF in collaboration with UNICEF Jharkhand, has been providing technical support to Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DWSD),in Garhwa of Jharkhand incorporating aspects of water and sanitation issues under the flagship programs of Government of India i.e., Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
IDF has undertaken various activities like identifying current status of water supply coverage, geographical terrains, water quality issues, water sources and capacity building aspects through collaboration and discussed with Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers of DWSD. Project team worked with DWSDon strategy preparation, inter-departmental coordination, convergence and capacity building of stakeholders. To implement and fostering action plan of Jal Jeevan Mission, a district level convergence meeting was organized with different departments i.e., DWS, Panchayati Raj, Health, Education and public representatives like MP, MLA and elected Sarpanch. Village level organizations were also oriented on importance, purpose and sustainability of Jal Jeevan Mission. To promote and reinforce SBMG Grameen Phase II and ODF behaviors, IDF worked for promoting management of solid and liquid waste in villages. IDF facilitate capacity building training of Block coordinators, social mobilizers and stakeholders includes VWSC, Functionaries of BWSC, DWSM, ASHA, Anganwadis workers, SHGs, NGO on ODF sustainability and SBM (G) Phase-II at District and Block level. For generating mass awareness on ODF and Menstruation (Chuppi To do Swast hRaho) organized orientation and campaign in digital and offline platform.
Achievements:
450 village level Action Plans from 85 selected Gram Panchayats have been prepared and shared with department.710 participants comprise of Block Program Manager 15th Finance and MGNAREGA, Panchayat Sevak, Rojgar Sevak, Mukhiya (Sarpanch), Jal Sahiyas, oriented on Jal Jeevan Mission.2400 group meetings with community members, SHG groups, VWSCs to disseminate information and generate awareness on Jal Jeevan Mission.290 FLW have been oriented on construction of individual household toilets, retrofitting of toilets, construction of community sanitary complex, solid waste management and 17795 FLW oriented on guidelines on COVID 19, Dos and Don’ts, and WASH. 20 Hand Washing Units were constructed in schools and 11538 students get access to practice safe hand washing with running water and soap in those schools. WASH supplies to 40 Anganwadi centers and 20 Hand Washing Units were constructed in schools in the district.
