Project Brief :
IDF in collaboration with UNICEF Jharkhand has been providing technical support to Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DWSD) in different aspects of water and sanitation issues under the flagship programs of Government of India i.e., Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to revamp water condition and enhance drinking water quality.
IDF has undertaken various activities at different levels starting from the grassroots level to the district level in a cascading method. Identifying the various issues on current status of water supply coverage, geographical terrains, water quality issues, water sources and capacity building aspects through collaborated and discussed with Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers of DWSD. Project team works with DWSD on strategy preparation, inter-departmental coordination, convergence and capacity building of stakeholders. In order to facilitate implementation and foster action plan of Jal Jeevan Mission, a district level convergence meeting has been organized with different departments i.e., DWS, Panchayati Raj, Health, Education and public representatives like MP, MLA and elected Sarpanch. Capacity building training on different issues like making JJM mission, preparation of village action plan and engage community for ownership development and water quality surveillance to Junior Engineers, Block Coordinators, social mobilizers and Water Quality Laboratory Technicians.  Orientations of Block Coordinators and social mobilizers for preparation of village action plan. Capacity building trainings at village level on Water quality testing to the Jal Sahiyas for monitoring and surveillance water quality. Generating community awareness on Importance, objectives and sustainability of Jal Jeevan Mission at different village level organizations like Shelf Help Groups under Jharkhand Livelihood promotion society, Village Water Sanitation Committee, Pani Samiti, Youth groups through community mobilization. Project team extended support  to village water sanitation committees (VWSD) and the Pani Samiti for operation & maintenance  village water supply schemes for its better sustainability and community involvement for safeguarding the sustainability of the village water supply schemes and developing ownership by mobilizing the community.

IDF facilitated capacity building training of Block coordinators, social mobilizers and stakeholders includes VWSC, Functionaries of BWSC, DWSM, ASHA, Anganwadis workers, SHGs, NGO on ODF sustainability and SBM (G) Phase-II at District and Block level. For generating mass awareness on ODF and Menstruation (Chuppi Todo Swasth Raho) organized Orientation and Campaigns in digital and offline platform.

Achievements:

540 participants included BDOs, BCs, SM, Jal Sahiyas and Swachhagrahis trained on Water Management, ODF Solid and Liquid waste management. 1200 Jal Sahiya, 7435 SHGs and 453 Sewikas trained on COVID-19 guidelines. 406 Village Action Plan (VAP) has been prepared under JJM, Jal Shapath was organized in various government institutions where 7500 people took part, 92 Water Testing Kits, 6782 sanitizers were distributed. 1393 Soak Pits have been constructed in convergence with MNREGA, RD&PR and DWSD departments. IDF has provided WASH supplies to 40 Anganwadi centers and 20 Hand Washing Units were constructed in schools in the district.
